Most people are unaware that low energy lightbulbs should not be disposed of in your general waste bin, you should deal with it as you would with any other electronic product, observing the WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) regulations that came into force a few years ago, and you should use your local authority facilities instead or some shops have lightbulb recycling facilities. Recolight have useful map of free collection points. If you can't get to your local recycling centre, ask a friend, neighbour or relation to take them for you, along with theirs.
