Traffic increasing to our energy efficient products database

Word is getting around about the sust-it site. We’ve had a steady stream of sites wanting to link to us. The traffic is also growing nicely as we keep building the database. It’s becoming increasingly obvious that consumers do check out the power consumption of products before they make a purchase.

Office equipment added to our energy efficient database

The office equipment energy efficiency database goes live on the site, all be it a little short on products at the moment. We are finding it incredibly difficult to find information on the power consumption of computers, photocopiers and peripherals. If you are a manufacturer then please do get in touch, as we need your data! Especially if you have a developed lean mean green machine!

Fujitus furore!

After a week of to-ing and fro-ing with the Fujitsu technical department we finally get the correct power consumption. Apparently Fujitsus UK technical department had realised their data sheets were incorrect for a while, as the datasheet calculation had been based on tests using 100v carried out in Japan. The article in The Times obviously set some wheels in motion to get this corrected. Its been very interesting talking to technical people regarding the power consumption of plasma versus LCD screens and conventional CRT (tube) TVs. Apparently there seems to be no set standard for testing the power consumption of these new type of screen formats. LCDs appear to use a fairly constant stream of electricity, while plasma’s can vary according to the brightness levels of the image displayed, similar to CRT screens.

Good news! The Times features sust-it

Good news! The Times ran the piece on us on Saturday 27th January; it’s amazing how much effect that has on the site. Lots of interest from the public, who were asking for more information and making suggestions for the site. You can certainly see power of traditional media coverage. Links from other site and blogs are starting to happen, which is all driving traffic to the site. Fujitsu became our first manufacturer to register on the sust-it after their large plasma was picked up as the most energy hungry TV in our database.
