It looks like The Times money section has picked up on the sust-it story. Had a call from Mark Bridge, from the money section, he was looking for more background information on site. Hopefully we may get some coverage from it. He’s also interested in when we will be launching the business products section of the site, which will include computers and printers. I know this is going to be difficult, as most manufacturers don’t seem to publish data on power consumption, as you can specify different internal parts, i.e. hard drives, graphics cards and RAM which use differing amounts of power. So manufacturers may put in a large power supply for those running multiple screens, or specialist kit.

We didn’t quite grasp how many consumer products existed till we began inputting the data into the site. At the moment we are having to re-categorise the products on a daily basis. The LCD and plasma TV sections are nearly there and throwing up some interesting energy consumption figures. The variations in power consumption are incredibly wide. The top performing 42″ plasma uses nearly half the power of the worst. So you could be saving £80 a year by choosing the best performing screen.

We have our first press coverage! Adam Vaughan from the New Consumer Magazine are launching their new look website, and has agreed to feature us on the new site. Also had a couple of calls from other publications that are interested in the site. So figures crossed!

Sust-it finally goes live after weeks planning, programming and design work. The first batch of press releases have gone out, hopefully somebody’s interested! The database is a little thin at the moment as it takes forever to track down the information on power consumption.
